His absence is almost palpable.

He feels it in every sideways glance that screams ‘you’re not him’. In the deafening silence when he walks into a room. In the look of shared understanding on Angel and Cordelia’s faces when their eyes meet and they drop their guard for just a second; their souls bared to the world.

‘Is it wrong to envy a dead man?’ he wonders, watching as Cordelia’s face softens, then close off once more as she remembers him for the hundredth time today.

Wesley wonders what that feels like. To be important to someone. To belong somewhere. To be loved as much as this Doyle so obviously was.

He wonders if he will ever know. Wonders if anyone will ever grieve for him.
